Grazing Behaviour Analysis
A system for studying the grazing behaviour of ruminants and other animals
- Rugged Data Recorder
- Sensitive Nosebands
- Comprehensive Analysis Software
The IGER Behaviour Analysis system was developed at the Institute of Grassland and
Environmental Research, North Wyke, Devon, UK, and later refined by
Ultra Sound Advice.
Although originally designed
to record the foraging behaviour of sheep and cattle, the system provides a
reliable means to automatically record the behaviour of any animal above a
minimum size.
The data logger records the amplitude of the animal's jaw
movements on an MS-DOS formatted CompactFlash card. The jaw movement amplitude
data are recorded as 8 bit integers at 20 Hz, together with any other data
inputs, such as legswitch movements at 0.5 Hz, etc. The resulting data file
is read by a PC card reader into a PC, where it is processed using the jaw
movement analysis software,
Graze.
